The National Trust is looking for a dedicated and knowledgeable Gardener to join the team at Stowe, Buckingham (MK18 5EQ) on a full-time fixed-term contract through May 2026.
As a Gardener at Stowe, you won’t just maintain one of Britain’s most celebrated landscapes—you’ll be part of a legacy that’s inspired visitors for over 300 years.
What You’ll Be Doing
Reporting to the Head Gardener, you’ll carry out day-to-day gardening duties to the highest horticultural standards. Your work will be hands-on, varied, and essential to the upkeep and development of this world-renowned garden.

Key responsibilities include:
- Daily safety checks and routine garden maintenance (weeding, pruning, mulching)
- Operating machinery (hedge cutters, lawnmowers, tractors, chainsaws)
- Propagation and tree safety work
- Garden restoration and design support
- Waste management and recycling
You’ll also be an ambassador for the National Trust, enhancing the visitor experience through your passion and expertise.
What We’re Looking For
We’d love to hear from you if you are:
- An enthusiastic horticulturist with experience in hard landscaping
- Skilled in plant knowledge and garden detail
- Comfortable using gardening machinery and tools
- A holder of a full UK Driving Licence
- Physically fit and capable of demanding outdoor work
- Great with people—both independently and in a team setting
- Able to plan, prioritise, and meet deadlines
